Lulu's Head Way

Perhaps hair-raising escapades like Lady Godiva's ride and Cornelia Guest's tacky shampoo pitch have given long locks a frivolous name. For while these well-tressed women have their followers, today the proper, sensible, and stylish are taking their cue from the sculptured look of silent-screen star Louise Brooks. Vogue's new editor in chief, Anna Wintour, has been dictating changing fashions with the cut for eight years; Maguy LeCoze, owner of the four-star restaurant Le Bemardin, says, "It's one of the things I brought with me from France." Gloria Vanderbilt is a newcomer to the bob, while fashion veep Connie Darrow continues to scout for Barneys' best in her smart cap. Corinne Drewry, from the pop band Swing Out Sister, has used it as her trademark, and naturally photographer Alice Springs (a.lca. June Newton) would never think of changing her helmet.
