catalogue of missed opportunities for Americans this month, or so it says here—missed opportunities both acknowledged and unacknowledged. How we wish we could have been part of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon (or at least have joined Lewis and Clark on their joi the country to the Pacific). Some of these missed op] didn't even occur to us as they presented themselve then, suddenly, were gone. An appalling 92 percent
Americans admit that they have never, ever pretended to be Canadian when traveling abroad—thus losing out on a chance to try on for size that special frisson that is a Canadian's birthright. (Admittedly, the percentage of faux Canadians might have been higher if we had said "when traveling to Lebanon, Egypt, or Iran.")
Finally, and almost as staggering, there is evidence that a majority of Americans miss the opportunity for a real vacation because they're checking their work e-mail instead.
