This month we Americans present ourselves as an openminded bunch. We still endorse, to the tune of 62 percent, the "give me your tired, your poor ..." sentiment in the Emma Lazarus poem at the base of the Statue of Liberty; so, immigration's O.K. with us. We don't really think there are too many TY shows about crime or singing competitions, or New Jersey, or cooking, or medicine; well, maybe crime, but almost as many of us say keep them on the air anyway: we "like them all." Only 2 percent of us associate Mitt Romney with the Mormon religion—now, is that good news for Romney or for Mormons? Either way, we're clearly open-minded.

Although James Bond was our first choice for Lictional Adventurer We'd Most Like to Accompany, the votes were broadly distributedalmost all the other candidates (S. Holmes, J. Sparrow, H. Potter) also polled in the double digits, and the only one that didn't, Lara Croft, came close, with 9 percent; so, we're open-minded about whom we're willing to go on improbable, British-accented adventures with. (But poor Pippa Middleton—most of us did not recognize the sister of the wife of Prince William.) Linally, one-quarter of us remain sufficiently open-minded—or sufficiently something—\o doubt that Osama bin Laden is actually dead. Interesting. We're tempted to introduce that particular segment of the population to another segment: the one-third who are sufficiently open-minded—or sufficiently something—to have at J\\ some point consulted a psychiatrist or therapist.
