Colorful Expression

The Art Institute of Chicago's exhibition "Becoming Edvard Munch: Influence, Anxiety, and Myth" includes plenty of the swirling, eerily beautiful images that the Norwegian Expressionist is best known for, such as his masterpiece The Scream, but also many brighter, more literal scenes of late-19th-century life. They are juxtaposed with works by his contemporaries, including Monet, revealing some surprising parallels. (2/14-4/26; artic.edu)

Here Gomes the Fun

"Do something funny for money" was the philanthropic dictum issued to designer Stella McCartney, who created limited-edition T-shirts to benefit Comic Relief, a charity movement that helps Brits and Africans living in dire poverty. U.K. retailer TK Maxx will exclusively distribute the tees, which feature clownish red noses superimposed on celebrated people and cuddly animals. Thanks to such humanitarian efforts from the Beatles' progeny and other big hearts like hers, maybe money can buy love, (rednoseday.com)
