Table Talk
While any fifties-fumiture collector truly worth his kidney-shaped coffee table has been hunting down the highly esteemed and high-priced work of Eames, Noguchi, and Fomasetti (count Diane Keaton, David Byrne, and Francesco Clemente among them) for quite some time, examples by the masters of fifties French lighting and furniture design—Serge Mouille and Jean Royere—are just now becoming sought-after on this side of the Atlantic. Add Mathieu Mategot's craft to the list of fifties design which is worthy of its current place in the sun, or, in the case of his metal outdoor furniture, a spot on the patio. In New York, Mategot's metal outdoor tables and chairs can still be found—for under $10,000 a set.
