In a season when fashion focused more on the tailored cut than on the cutting edge, some designers milked audiences for support by parading celebrities down the catwalk. Just as Elizabeth Taylor was used on a soap to stir the ratings, so Grace Jones and topless pinup Suzanne Mizzi were enlisted to supply some excitement at the collections. Dianne Brill fell off the runway for Gaultier, Stephen Sprouse stayed on it (while the crowd buzzed about the sad fate of his business), and pom-poms swung from Tama Janowitz's hair for Betsey Johnson.
