Lovers for Dinner
How to seat fifty-two prima donnas who all see one another night after night? Phillips Hathaway of Sotheby's solved it neatly at his birthday dinner at Mortimer's for Mercedes Kellogg (below, with the host). Guests each pulled a famous name from baskets marked HIS and HERS, which sat them as pairs of legendary lovers. At one table, Iris Love was Ginger to Tommy Kempner's Fred, and Yasmin Aga Khan was Anne Boleyn to Kenny Lane's Henry VIII. Elsewhere, Andrea Reynolds, in a strapless black dress and ropes of pearls, played Empress Josephine. And Jerry Zipkin (right) played chef.
