SPOTLIGHT
Akhnaten Everywhere!
You can see the controversial Pharaoh, who championed monotheism, as sculpture (right); as visionary, in the Philip Glass opera Akhnaten (below), which has its U.S. premiere in Houston this month; and as dictator, in Donald Redford's new book, Akhenaten: The Heretic King (Princeton University Press). His more famous wife, Nefertiti (below, center), schemed in the 1954 film The Egyptian (bottom). Still to come: ABC's mini-series Egypt, which will portray Akhnaten as a precursor to Christ.
